| This is my last weekend in my little house in Pontiac. I have mixed emotions about leaving. I'm very happy to leave and begin a new phase in my life as a married woman and hopefully a mom someday soon. However, I've lived here 15 years and established firm roots in this community, both at school and at church. Several parents and students have made it a point of telling me how much they'll miss me or how much they appreciate the way I taught their kids. It makes me feel very good knowing my life had a positive impact on my students and their parents. My church family was kind enough to recognize the contributions I've made to the church with music, technology, and working the sound board. It was nice knowing that they appreciated what I did.
My pastor and his family are being transferred to a new church shortly after I leave, so it feels like God is tying up loose ends. I was a little melancholy at church today, realizing that it was my last Sunday as a member of Pontiac First United Methodist Church. It's my last Sunday as a resident of Pontiac, IL. It's my last week as band director at Dwight Grade School. It's my last week as a resident of the great state of Illinois. It's my last month as a single woman.
Then I began thinking of what lies ahead of me. In one week I'll be an Ohio Buckeye. In one week I'll be attending church with my future husband and his family. In one week I'll be a resident of East Liverpool, OH. In one month I'll be a happily married woman and the mother to 4 dogs and 2 cats, all of which dislike each other.
The last time I made such a life-altering transition, I was leaving college and starting life as an adult. I was very scared, but very excited. Those same feelings and emotions are coming back. I like that feeling. I like the adventure.
On to a new adventure...

| Sean and Junko had a baby girl on May 15, 2007. Her name is Maya Lynn Doyle. I think she's very cute, even if she never opens her eyes and sleeps all the time. Jay and I went to visit her last weekend and the entire time she was snoozing away. She opened one eye for about 5 seconds. As soon as she did, I said "Hi Maya! I'm your aunt Kimmy--" and then she shut her eyes. Oh, well. She'll meet me in a year when she's awake for more than 5 seconds.

| Congratulations, Jason & Holly! My inlaws-to-be just had their first baby--a boy they named Ranger. Yes...Ranger. Don't ask.
He's beautiful and adorable and I can't wait to get my hands on him so I can squeeze his chubby little baby cheeks! Jay gets to see him this week. He's going to fly down to Florida for one day to see him. I'm jealous.

| Winter is good in December when you want a White Christmas. Winter is bad in April when you've suffered through months of winter, cold, wet, and misery. It's even worse when in March you had three days of 70 degree weather and sunshine to tease you into thinking spring was actually here.
This stinks. My brain is no longer in Illinois. It's in East Liverpool, Ohio.

| I have to say this has been more than an unusual week. We had a legal holiday on Monday (Lincoln's Birthday) and then a major blizzard blew through on Tuesday and Wednesday, shutting down the county and the schools. Thursday we returned to work, but the kids only stayed a half day because we already had a planned teacher inservice that day. Friday was my chance to actually work with my kids.
Until...
After running to the bathroom in the morning, my back began to spasm like crazy. The pain was so intense that it was difficult to stand up straight. I thought that maybe I had a kidney stone. I've never had one, but the pain was just exactly were my right kidney is and it happened after going to the bathroom. I thought I could wait it out until after school, so I called the doctor and made an appointment during my afternoon planning period. After about 10 minutes, the pain got so bad I had to tell the office that I needed to go RIGHT NOW to the doc's office.
Meanwhile, my fiance had the long stemmed red roses sent to the school. They were gorgeous. For about 30 seconds, I forgot I was in pain while I smelled them. :)
Long story short, I got to the doc's, he confirmed that I did indeed have a kidney stone, and he gave me a shot of Demerol to kill the pain. Let me just say that I now realize why drug addicts like drugs. I felt immediate relief and was floating. Mmm....nice feeling after barfing my guts out from the pain.
Now, here's one of the great things about living and working in small towns. I've taught my doc's kids and he knows me pretty well. He needed me to go to the hospital in Pontiac to get a CT scan to size up this stone, so he made sure I had safe transportation to the hospital. So, his wife Pam drove me to Pontiac and made sure I got into the hospital okay. Isn't that great? My mom was able to pick me up and spend the night with me to make sure I was fine. My coworkers are going to pick up my car in Dwight for me tonight and my other coworkers have already called to make sure I was okay. I really like these towns--there are some really nice people living here. I'll miss them a lot.
So mom picked me up from the hospital and when we got home, there was ANOTHER bouquet of flowers waiting for me from Jay WITH a gift certificate to my favorite pizza place. How wonderful is he? Too wonderful for words. I now have three gorgeous bouquets of flowers in my home and a belly full of Monical's pizza.
Life is good...even with a kidney stone.
